This region, nestled in the short-grass plains between the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and Serengeti National Park, is not just another stop on a safari; it's the stage for the most dramatic act of the wildebeest migration: the Calving Season. From December to March, these plains transform. Trust us, the reward is unparalleled. From the moment you set foot in this wildlife-rich haven to the final, golden sunset, you'll be captivated by landscapes dotted with acacia trees and filled with the sounds of thousands of animals. To help you prepare for this unforgettable adventure, we've crafted a detailed safari plan that will guide you through every inspiring moment of the journey.
After breakfast, depart Arusha for Tarangire National Park, approximately 2–3 hours’ drive. Enjoy a full game drive in a park famous for its large elephant herds, ancient baobab trees, and diverse wildlife including lions, giraffes, zebras, and a rich birdlife. Lunch will be taken as a picnic inside the park. In the late afternoon, transfer to your lodge/camp for dinner and overnight.
After an early breakfast, drive towards the iconic Serengeti National Park, passing through the scenic Ngorongoro Highlands. Enter the Serengeti for an en-route game drive as you head to the central/southern plains.The Serengeti is renowned for its vast savannahs and high density of predators such as lions, cheetahs, and leopards. Dinner and overnight at your lodge or tented camp inside the park.
Spend a full day exploring the Southern Serengeti plains, an area especially famous during the Great Migration season. Extensive game drives will focus on large herbivore herds and their predators. Enjoy a picnic lunch in the bush and continue wildlife viewing until late afternoon.
After breakfast, drive to the Ndutu area, located within the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and forming part of the greater Serengeti ecosystem. This region is particularly known for the wildebeest calving season (January–March) and excellent predator sightings. Enjoy flexible game drives around Ndutu Lake and the surrounding short-grass plains.
Depart early with picnic lunches and drive to the Ngorongoro Crater. Descend into the crater floor for a game drive in one of Africa’s most spectacular wildlife areas, home to black rhinos, lions, elephants, buffaloes, and flamingos. After the game drive, ascend the crater and return to Arusha, arriving in the late afternoon.
