remarkable wildlife encounters. In the Serengeti, vast open savannahs host an extraordinary concentration of wildlife, while the Ngorongoro Crater reveals a natural sanctuary where animals thrive year-round within the world’s largest intact volcanic caldera. Throughout the safari, expect close encounters with iconic species such as lions, elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, various bird species and countless plains game. This journey promises immersive game viewing, dramatic landscapes, and lasting memories of Tanzania’s wilderness at its finest.
Your Armadillo Adventures safari guide will meet you at your accommodation, after breakfast and begin the journey to Tarangire National Park, an approximate two-and-a-half-hour drive from Arusha town. Tarangire National Park is defined by the Tarangire River, a vital waterway that sustains wildlife throughout the dry season when surrounding areas become arid. As you explore the park, you are likely to encounter large elephant herds moving between the riverbanks and open plains, along with giraffes, plains zebras, wildebeest, impalas, bushbucks, and hartebeests. The diversity of herbivores supports a healthy predator population, and sightings of lions are common, while leopards are often observed resting in acacia trees or rocky outcrops.A picnic lunch will be served at a scenic location within the park, allowing time to relax while observing wildlife activity nearby. The afternoon is dedicated to further game viewing before leaving the park and continuing to the cooler highlands of Karatu, where you will check in to your lodge for dinner and overnight rest
After breakfast, depart Karatu and drive through the scenic highlands of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, with a brief stop at a viewpoint overlooking the Ngorongoro Crater and have packed lunch. The journey continues across volcanic landscapes and Maasai grazing areas before entering Serengeti National Park through the Lodoare Gate in the southern Serengeti. Upon arrival, enjoy an en-route game drive across the open plains, home to large herds of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, and resident predators including lions and cheetahs. The Serengeti is also famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, which moves seasonally in search of fresh grazing.
The day is dedicated to extensive game drives in Serengeti National Park. The Park supports a remarkable diversity of wildlife, including impalas, buffaloes, hippos, crocodiles, giraffes, and large herds of plains game. Predator sightings are common, with opportunities to see lions, cheetahs, and, with luck, elusive leopards. Game drives are planned to follow seasonal wildlife movements, and if conditions allow, you may travel beyond the Central Serengeti to observe sections of the Great Migration. With its endless plains, dramatic skies, and constant wildlife activity, the Serengeti delivers one of Africa’s most unforgettable safari experiences.
After breakfast, the departure from the plains of Serengeti National Park will start toward the Ngorongoro Crater. The journey offers scenic transitions from open savannah to volcanic highlands. Descend into the crater, a vast caldera formed millions of years ago, now sheltering a rich and self-contained ecosystem. The crater floor supports large populations of wildebeest, zebras, gazelles, buffaloes, hippos, and an impressive variety of birdlife. This is also one of the best places in Tanzania to encounter the endangered black rhinoceros in its natural habitat.
After breakfast, depart Karatu and drive to Lake Manyara National Park for a final game drive. Although compact in size, the park offers remarkable ecological diversity, stretching from groundwater forests to open floodplains beneath the dramatic Great Rift Valley escarpment. Wildlife commonly encountered includes large troops of baboons, forest-dwelling elephants, hippos, and a wide variety of birdlife along the alkaline lake, which seasonally attracts flamingos and numerous water birds. The Park is also known for its elusive tree-climbing lions, occasionally seen resting in acacia trees. Enjoy a picnic lunch inside the park before concluding your safari. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Arusha town marking the end of your journey with Armadillo Adventures.
